The I-670 Smart Lane project is an effort to help with congestion on the eastbound lanes from downtown to the I-270 interchange on the east site of Columbus. The smart lane takes advantage of the left shoulder during peak traffic volume times.

The Smart Lane includes with nine overhead signs 60 feet long and 10 feet high. The seven-mile corridor features 39 cameras that are monitored in the ODOT’s Traffic Management Center. The Speeds change as traffic flow as traffic volume changes.
